*I have a sometimes immobilizing fear of the dark. It didn't show up until I was about 11 years old when my sister came home from a Young Women's Mutual Activity and proceeded to tell me a story that the YW President had told the girls about an experience with... not nice things... at night. I'm not afraid of murderers, rapists, burglars, etc. But I have literally become paralyzed at times with fear when I allow my imagination to wander into other-worldly evilness. Even still, if it's nighttime and I am up by myself, I will run up the stairs in an alarmingly explosive rate and, no matter how hot it is, I must have some sort of covers up to my chin... as if that'll protect me. Becoming a mommy helped a little as I've become more capable of fearlessly traversing dark hallways to check on my child... but when given just a second to think about other things, I freak out like a psychopath.
*I can be either really efficient or really lazy. I have no middle ground. I have been known to get going on things and not stop to the point of being almost OCD. Or, if I feel like putting things off, I will accomplish absolutely nothing. Example: a couple of days ago I was looking at the future nursery of baby #2 and decided to start doing some organizing. I ended up doing chores around the house for a good 3 hours straight after that and my poor little pregnant body has been suffering ever since. Today? Stared at the computer looking at nothing specific for the entirety of Malia's nap, even though laundry & dishes could use some doing. Baffling.
*From age, oh, probably about 10 until I moved out at 18, I put mini-musicals on in the privacy of my bedroom. I would, literally, rummage through my closet for costumes and actually go through the process of styling my hair and make-up to look like the character and then I would blast a Broadway CD, and lip-sync (yes - even though I sing, I actually lip-synced... hey! I didn't want anyone to know what I was doing)! Sometimes my sisters would walk in on me and laugh. I actually did CATS once... with full-on make-up. I actually brought myself to tears a few times while putting on "Ragtime." I would do the same with my Barbies. My sister Cindy laughs when I tell her how I used to get nervous that she would come in while my nightie-bedecked Barbie sang "Lost & Found" from the musical "City of Angels." Good times.
*I can actually be painfully shy. I swear. Most people have erased any possible memory of me as such because of following experiences of me without seemingly any inhibitions... but if people could truly, actually remember our first encounters, they'd probably realize this is a complete truth. I make David introduce me more frequently than I am willing to do so myself. Honest.
*Sometimes I worry more about whether or not Malia will have a uni-brow or be somewhat obese or have terrible acne than I do about whether or not she will live a gospel-centered life. I don't know why that is. Maybe because I have a false confidence that I will have more control over her agency than her looks? Maybe because I never personally struggled in the testimony department but always felt lacking in the looks department? I'm assuming these fears will shift when she is older and I am forced more so to face them.
*I desperately crave chocolate more on Sundays than any other day. No lie. I think it's because I find that we never seem to have any in the house on Sundays, and darn it! I can't go buy any!

Ok. I just wanted to do this one.
20 years ago: It makes me feel old to say I that was alive 20 years ago. But it was 1988. I got baptized that year. There are 3 things I remember about my baptism. 1)I was promised banana splits afterwards. 2) I was annoyed that I hadn't dried off better because my pretty white dress was sticking to my body. 3) I was kind of annoyed that I had to share my baptism day with another girl in my ward because she had been out-of-town during her month. This was also the year I decided to be like my mom and got an identical haircut and perm. Problem was, it was a style meant for older women. I looked lame. Brian Maloney called me "Orphan Annie" & "Poodle-head."
10 years ago: 1998. Now I really feel old, because I have to officially acknowledge now that my 10-year high school reunion is quickly approaching. Go Class of '98! Woot! This was a big year. I had gone from having kissed only 2 boys in the first 18 years of my life to this specific year when my serious boyfriend of almost a year broke my heart (for those of you who haven't heard.... he cheated on me with an 8th grader. So lame. I know). Then I had a rebound relationship with a guy almost 10 years older then me. I moved out and started college, and met a Jehovah's Witness boy and we had a very dramatic, tumultuous relationship (driven by the fact his parents loathed, I mean loathed, Mormons). Good times.
5 years ago: Ugh. I am so glad I didn't have to write about some of the stuff between '98 & 2001. Phew! Although... there were good times, too. I'm just sayin'. OK, so 5 years ago, I was beginning my 2nd year of marriage to my wonderful husband. I had just completed teaching a year of high school and I was exhausted and ready to finish college. I wanted OUT! (of college... not my marriage). I also did a record 4 shows that year.
3 years ago: This was a very big year of change for me. I graduated college this year. We went to NYC for showcase where a casting director offered me 2 jobs, right there, on the spot, but I had just found out I was pregnant (after fearing for 2 weeks I might lose the baby due to possible ectopic pregnancy). I had morning sickness ALL DAY & NIGHT for 3 months. Then I had a lovely 2nd trimester and we took a big, fun CA trip with some friends, where they rode all the roller coasters... and I held their stuff (so lame). Then I got kidney stones during the 3rd trimester. And then after 18 hours of labor, I had to have an emergency cesarean. But through all that, the greatest joy of my life was born. Malia Renee entered my life 3 years ago. She's only 2, but she entered then... you know.... I mean.... if you count it up.... oh never mind.
1 year ago: We'd been living in CA for David's new first job post-grad-school, for a little while, and were finally beginning to settle. It was a very anticlimactic year... which can be nice, to tell you the truth. (except for that whole "moving-company-being-over-a-month-late-with-our-stuff-so-I-stayed-at-my-parents'-house-while-Dave-slept-on-the-floor-of-our-new-apartment-for-3-weeks" thing). Oh, and I tried out for "Wicked" and got called back for Elphaba, but had prior obligations and had to turn things down. Kind of sucked.
So far this year: Did a game show. Bought a house. Malia turned 2. Took on some voice students. Just got called with David to teach the CTR 5 class.
Yesterday I: Shaved my legs (hey - that's huge for me, sometimes). Went grocery shopping. Washed the sheets because Malia peed on them because she didn't have a diaper on because I was letting her rash air-dry. Watched LOST.
Today I: Ran some errands. Videotaped Malia doing gymnastics and singing on our bed. Ate some ice cream (bad. BAD!) Bought David some junk food for his game night. Got ready for bed.
Later tonight: I'm about 10 minutes away from brushing my teeth and going to bed.
Tomorrow: David's grandparents will be stopping by. Then David is going to the temple with a friend, so I'll probably just take Malia to the park, or something. Then, somewhere in there, I'll practice the song I'm supposed to sing in Church on Sunday.
This year I hope to: Be involved in a theatrical production in some way or another. (I'm DYIN' here). Oh, and I wouldn't mind getting pregnant... although, the fact that I just announced that desire means it won't happen. Maybe we should get a dog...
I tag: Whoever wants to do it. :D
29 February 2008
ABCs: Taylor tagged me....
B: Best Friend: Well, my husband, of course. And Malia, because we play with each other every day! And my sisters, of course; even when they tick me off. Sisters are kind of the best friends God forces on you.
C: Cake or Pie: Hm. That's a toughie. I'm guessing pie, because I could always eat pie. I kind of have to be in the mood to eat cake.
D: Day of Choice: Saturday because it's the weekend and Davey is home with us! I'd pick Sunday except Monday comes after Sunday and the anticipation alone kills the day.
E: Essential Item: Diaper bag.
F: Favorite Color: Purple
G: Gummi Bears or Worms: Gummi worms, totally.
H: Hometown: Apple Valley, CA
I: Indulgence(s): Shopping, chocolate, and french fries (oh, I always want fries)!
J: January or July: Now that I live in CA again, it's hard to say. July can almost be TOO hot, but January can sometimes be grey for too long. Meh. I hate 'em both. /shrug
K: Kids: What about them? I have 2. A beautiful girl, Malia, who's 2. And a handsome boy, David.... who's 29.
L: Life is incomplete without: the Atonement (didn't mean to be preachy or anything, but hey, it's true).
M: Marriage Date: June 15th, 2002 (going on 6 years soon)!
N: Number of Siblings: 2 older brothers, an older sister, and a younger sister. Yeah, I know, it explains a lot. I'm the poster child for middle child issues.
O: Oranges or Apples: Oranges
P: Phobias or Fears: I have a terribly debilitating and paralyzing fear of being alone in the dark. It's faded a little since having a child who I sometimes have to check on in the dark.... necessity trumps my self-absorbed fear. But I hate the dark.
Q: Quote(s): "Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn." C.S. Lewis. Love him.
R: Reason To Smile: Life
S: Season: Spring or Fall, for similar reasons
T: Tag Six: Ugh. I hate this part. 6? Really? Um, ok. Liz Johnson, Shannon Winkel, Lisa Badal, Chrissy Dix, Amy Shreeve, and.... Stephanie Jerdon. Sorry girls. DO IT!!!
U: Unknown Fact about Me: I am incredibly sensitive. I can cry really easily... and usually do. Along with this I get a little paranoid about what people think of me (you'd probably never guess that, with how often I act like a complete lunatic...)
V: Vegetarian or Oppressor of Animal: Oppressor, with no apologies.
W: Worst Habit: Procrastination
X: X-Rays or Ultrasounds: Never had an X-ray.... and ultrasounds are fun cause you get to see your baby! Except internal ultrasounds... but that's a whole 'nother blog.
Y: Your Favorite Food: I hate this question. I refuse to answer it.
Z: Zodiac: Leo

What the....?!! I was tagged?

*"Diapees & Wipees" (the pink and green circles) holds baby wipes and diapers
*My wallet
*Cough drops (because I can't kick this stupid COUGH)!
*A California Adventure theme park map, because Malia wanted to hold one.
*An "Honorary Disneyland Citizen" button because an employee thought Malia was so cute (we played at the parks last night.... heh).
*Cell phone
*Keys
*Lip gloss
*A quarter?! (sweet! I NEVER have cash)!
I can't imagine that this was at all entertaining for any of you... but whatevs. I'm just relieved there wasn't a crumpled up baby wipe or dirty kleenex or a cough drop wrapper or something embarrassingly personal in there. I actually appear somewhat organized!
... wait. There were some goldfish crumbs. So much for my "perfection" facade. Meh. I doubt I've ever had anyone convinced otherwise.
So..... um... geez, Chrissy! Who do I tag since I can't tag you?
OH! Jean Anderson, Hilary Wertz, and Liz Jonhson... I TAG YOU! Wait. I wan't to tag 4 people... Heather Peterson, I tag you, as well. Nice. Get at it ladies.
